Inspired by the beach and equipped with years of experience in the swimwear industry, Allan Colvin knew what it would take to create a niche in the swimwear marketplace when he started Manhattan Beachwear over 20 years ago. With a moniker that pointed to his favorite surf spot on the Southern California coast, and the license for the Hobie name from friend and surfing legend Hobie Alter; he created a company that would produce the first surf-inspired American classic swimwear collection under the Hobie label. Still at the helm, Colvin has grown Manhattan Beachwear into a diverse company over the last two decades. Today, Manhattan Beachwear is a leading manufacturer of junior and women’s swimwear producing its own collections, as well as holding the licenses for several of the most sought after labels in the marketplace. The company’s licenses include Hobie, Split, Kenneth Cole Reaction, Kenneth Cole New York, Sofia by ViX and Hermanny by ViX. In addition to licensed brands, Manhattan Beachwear produces and markets two if its own brands, 24th & Ocean and Maxine of Hollywood.
Manhattan Beachwear’s swimwear brands are sold to major department stores and specialty chain stores nationwide including, Macy’s, Dillard’s, Saks Inc., Nordstrom, Everything But Water and Swim n Sport. Additionally, all brands are widely distributed in specialty stores, bikini shops and surf stores throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada.
